Why Drawing?

1. After introducing myself on the first day of class. We would briefly go over classroom procedures and rules. Then I would have the students grab the piece of paper underneath their seat. On the paper will be a drawing prompt that will have a fun inspiration written on it that the student will draw. We will then push the tables back and put down a big piece of paper in the middle of the classroom. The students will then draw their prompts, after we will talk as a class what we drew and why.
2. I believe with every subject you learn it helps you learn different ways of thinking. And not just different ways of thinking, but critically thinking. That can be the same with art. It can teach you how to see the world. When students learn how to draw they are learning how objects are actually being represented. In order to teach it in an interesting way I would consider a few of the following options:
Blind contour drawing
Students bring in their own objects to draw
Have an artist go step by step with the students to show how to master a certain object or idea.
Chalk drawings outside
Stick drawings
Camera obscura in the classroom. Draw what is shown on the walls with paper
Drawing foundations should include knowing how to shape and form objects. The ability to show form through line and shading.
