Overall the chapter discusses how a curriculum develops in a classroom setting. A teachers job is simple and yet complicated. The preparation is complex because of the preparation involved and obstacles that are political. Something employers want us to implement in the classroom. The main goal is to assist out students to becoming better artists.
A lot of the time we want to have control over the outcomes that are happening in the classroom. But in order for our students we must let some control of that go. Students and teachers will learn together through the processes of art-making.
I was engaged when the book began to talk about how art making can sometimes be used to achieve other ends such as getting out students to think more creatively, and preparing for job skills. I believe that artists have a lot to offer our community. We aren't just teaching our students how to draw or paint, we are teaching them how to think like an artist, how to approach and idea creatively.
And with that point of process and engaged learning, we need to allow our students time and space for further experimentation. Art making can be integrated into other learning. Students can base their art on the knowledge gained from math and science.
I also loved how the author didn't talk about classroom management. He talked about classroom collaboration. The chapter was really good in addressing how students address art work as well. Things to consider and apply in the classroom.
